Trail from Erwin TN to Damascus, VA - April 30 - May 6th

This section of the trail is from mile 359 to 464 in Damascus, VA. We made it to our fourth state, and we'll be here for quite a while - 500 miles in Virginia.
 Red Trilium
Shelter at the summit of Roan Mt. This was a long climb to 6,285 ft - the 3rd highest point on the trail. Views were not great, the summit was wooded.
May 1 - Crossing Round Bald at 5,826 ft, Roan Mt in the background.
A patch of Spring Beauty and trout lilies. There have been fewer sightings of these since leaving the Smokies.

 Campsite by the Overmountain shelter
Looking back at the barn at the Overmountain shelter
Climbing Little Hump Mt - a grassy open bald
Summit of Little Hump - May 2nd
Looking back at Little Hump from Hump Mt 5,587 ft.
Humpt Mt. We love these open, grassy bald summits. We don't have them in the northeast.

The balds are amazing! You got some great shots from them - especially the ones with the huge, soft cloud masses rolling by.

The trillium shots are something!
